Privacy Policy

Reviews For You ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through reviewsforyou.ca (the "Site"), why we collect it, and your choices. We follow Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

1. Information we collect

Business listings

Our lists describe businesses using information that is publicly available, such as business names, addresses, phone numbers, websites, business email addresses, hours, photos and public reviews, or that the business sends us. Most of this is business contact information rather than personal information. If a listing includes information about you personally and you would like it changed or removed, contact us.

Information you give us

• Business submissions: the business details, contact name, email, phone number, photos and other information you enter in our "List your business" form.
• Support requests: your name, email, business and message.
• Purchases and accounts: when you buy a sponsored spot, your name, business name, billing address, email and phone number, plus the account we create for you so you can manage your spots.

Payment information

Card payments are processed by Stripe. Your full card number goes directly to Stripe and is never stored on our website. We receive a record of the payment and limited card details (such as the card type, last four digits and expiry date) so that you can manage renewals. Stripe's handling of your information is covered by the Stripe Privacy Policy.

Information collected automatically

• Cookies: our store uses cookies to keep your checkout session and login working. We also use Google Analytics (through Google Site Kit) to understand how visitors use the Site, such as which pages are viewed and roughly where visitors are from. Google may process this information outside Canada. You can block cookies in your browser or use Google's opt-out add-on.
• Emails we send to businesses: our emails contain a small image and tracked links, so that we can tell whether an email was opened and whether a link in it was clicked. We use this only to understand interest in our emails and to avoid sending unwanted messages. Blocking images in your email app prevents open tracking.
• Security: our web server and security tools record IP addresses and similar technical information to keep the Site secure and to stop spam and abuse.

2. How we use your information

• To publish and keep business listings accurate.
• To review business submissions and answer support requests.
• To process payments, activate sponsored spots, send receipts, renewal reminders and payment notices, and manage your account.
• To send businesses information about their listing and sponsorship opportunities. Every promotional email includes an unsubscribe link, and we keep a list of addresses that have unsubscribed so that they are not emailed promotions again.
• To understand how the Site is used and improve it.
• To protect the Site, prevent fraud and meet our legal and tax obligations.

We do not sell or rent personal information.

3. Who we share it with

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run the Site, and only as needed for them to do so: our web hosting provider, Stripe (payments), our email delivery provider and Google (analytics). These providers are required to protect your information. Some of them may store or process information outside Canada, where it may be subject to the laws of that country. We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect our rights.

4. Consent and your choices

• By submitting a form or making a purchase, you consent to our use of your information as described here.
• You can unsubscribe from promotional emails at any time using the link in any of our emails. You will still receive messages about purchases you have made.
• You can turn off automatic renewal, update your card or change your account details at any time from your account.
• You can withdraw your consent to other uses of your information by contacting us, subject to legal and contractual limits.

5. Access and correction

You have the right to ask for access to the personal information we hold about you and to ask us to correct it. Send your request to the contact below. We will respond within 45 days, as required by Alberta law.

6. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above. Order and billing records are kept for as long as tax law requires (currently up to seven years). Unsubscribe records are kept so that we continue to honour your request.

7. How we protect it

We use reasonable safeguards to protect personal information, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections, restricted administrator access and a payment processor that meets card-industry security standards. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the authorities as the law requires if a breach creates a real risk of significant harm.

8. Children

The Site is intended for adults and businesses. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed.
